The Eight Levels of Programmers

Nice article from Coding Horror on where you do see yourself in 5 years… and 30 years?

The 8 levels go from Dead Programmer (Your code has survived and transcended your death.) to Bad Programmer (People who somehow fell into the programmer role without an iota of skill or ability.)

I hope that some day, long after my dogs have spread my ashes out on the moon, a programmer out there will be giggling at my comments.

The full list after the break.

“Programmers all have their pet peeves.  Whether it’s scope creep, Hungarian notation, or smelly coworkers, we’ve come to accept that there are certain nuisances that come with our line of work. ”

My personal favourite peeve from the list is No 3. Vagueness!

The purpose of the campaign is to support The Zimbabwean newspaper which has been slapped by the Mugabe regime with a 55% luxury duty tax making the paper unaffordable to most citizens.

Invaluable App: Texter

This app frikkin rocks my socks…

“What it does: Lets you define text substitution hotstrings that, when triggered, will replace hotstring with a larger piece of text.”

“So something like sig1 will automatically be replaced by your full signature when triggered.”

Seriously, check it out. Video after the break…

An analogue clock using only CSS

Paul Hayes of London has created an interesting experiment that shows how you can create an analogue clock using just CSS and JavaScript is only used to get the current time.

Definitely shows some of the power of Safari’s css transition effects.

Note: The clock is Safari or Google Chrome only!

jQTouch

David Kaneda has created jQTouch a “jQuery plugin with native animations, auto list navigation, and default application styles for Mobile WebKit browsers like iPhone, G1, and Pre.”

I dunno about you guys, but that makes me happy in the pants…

“it uses hardware-accelerated animations, and also includes transitions like slide up and 3D page flip.”
